Dear Winning Team of 2050 World Cup―'We Shall Overcome!' Bringing Robots into Human Civilization

From June 19-25, "RoboCup 2002" will be held in Fukuoka, Japan, and Pusan, Korea. This event is being held side-by-side with the World Cup soccer tournament in the two countries, becoming the first competition for biped robots and a forum for related topics. To get a better idea of the expectations and intentions of the tournament, STJ (Science and Technology in Japan) turned to Dr. Hiroaki Kitano, Chairman of The RoboCup Federation, and Mr. Norio Izumi, President and Chief Executive Officer of SGI Japan, a computer integration maker actively supporting RoboCup.
