Leading to the Future with the Photovoltaic Power Generation Business

The market saturation level of PV power generation systems in Japan is still less than 1% and a vast market is opening up for the future. However, to promote the effective uses of PV power generation on a larger scale, it is still necessary to develop cost efficient technologies in order to reduce the price, e.g. those aimed at a reduction in materials usage, improved efficiency, and a decrease in the size and installation labor components. Our dream at the Sharp Corporation is to see a PV module on the rooftop of every house in Japan and to know that each household supplies its own power entirely from solar energy. When we consider countries outside Japan, we see many regions that are still unable to enjoy a rich, electricity supported and IT aware life. This shortcoming is due mainly to an absence of power supplies. We also earnestly hope to develop supportive activities that are aimed at assisting the installation of PV power generation systems in these no electricity regions and to contribute thus to the significant development of their cultures.
