2005 Springs Forward with Life Science-related Events

On March 28,2005, the Tokyo Prince Hotel was venue of the Fifth Life Science Summit, focusing on innovation being wrought in the life sciences. Under the theme of post-genome research strategies and creation of new industries using biotechnology, the event was organized the Life Science Summit Executive Committee comprising Mr. Koji Omi (Chair of Diet Members' Promotion Alliance for Life Sciences [DMPALS]), Dr. Tadamitsu Kishimoto (member of the Council for Science & Technology Policy in the Cabinet Office) and Mr. Katsuhiro Utada (Chair of the Japan Association of Bioindustry Executives [JABEX]). At this gathering, a nine-article summation, entitled the Fifth Life Science Summit Declaration, was adopted as a consensus of the participants. In addition to the dozen speakers/panelists, several hundred people ranging from Diet members (such as the Senior Vice Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Mr. Toshio Kojima as well as over a dozen DMPALS participants) and academics to bioindustry and other professionals involved in biotech gathered on the first day of the working week, despite hectic schedules.
