Policy measures that emphasize green tract of land conservation in urban areas have been promoted in Japan since the 1990s, for resolving various urban environmental issues such as global warming and the "heat island" phenomenon.rnAreas of greenery in urban areas play a significant role in purifying the air, mitigating climate change, preventing uncontrolled urban sprawl, preventing pollution and, avoiding disaster. They are also critical elements in creating a comfortable urban environment, in terms of providing recreational space and a beautiful townscape.
