Comments on S Shaekley and B Wynne paper 'Global climate changes the mutual construction of an emergent science-policy domain'

Shackley and Wynne's paper (Science and Public Policy, 22(4), August 1995, pages 218-230) makes an important contribution to the research field of science and public policy. It breaks new ground, is stimulating and enlightens us as to how observation and theory, including large-scale environmental mod-els (General Circulation Models — GCMs), may translate into the development of 'rational choices' for policy-makers. However, an alternative, if com-plementary, view of the role of climate-change sci-ence in the British policy process is possible.
