摘要

We do not know as much about contemporary capitalism as we might wish. For example, we hear a great deal about the knowledge economy, but relatively less about what that economy actually looks like, how it operates, and how the agents of that economy interact and produce outcomes. Where useful work has been done, it tends to be delimited in determinate ways: a focus on R&D processes, or private organizations and their reliance upon expertise. Other work tends toward a more critical orientation. The editors and contributors of The Knowledge Economy at Work have gone some way to remediate existing gaps in the state of our knowledge and understanding, and they present a useful platform for future investigation, description, and explanation.
