Networking: University-industry co-operation: the Coimbra University network of private Non-profit institutions

An analysis of the private non-profit-making institutions within the network of the University of Coimbra on the basis of their respective R & D activities, allows us to gauge the intensity of the university-industry relationship of which these institutions are protagonists. Three groups of institutions have been identified: the first is strongly connected to the basic sciences (basic research), the second to the applied sciences (applied research and experimental develop- ment), and the third to the economic and social sciences (basic and applied research and especially the provision of consultative services).
