摘要

The presence of mercury in water has a significant toxic effect on the biological activity of the system. The most toxic species are the organo mercurials, particularly CH_3Hg~+ (methyl mercury). Mercury content as pollutant in the river water and waste water discharge samples of the Suberna rekha and Kharkai Rivers around the Industrial area of Jamshedpur were studied monthly. The results at site-1 in the Suberna Rekha River were alarming & beyond tolerance limit.
