Seed Germination and Seedling Growth of Cassia alata by the extracts of Eichhornia crassipes Mart Solm

The world's worst weed, water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) was used to study Its aqueous extract effect on the seed germination and seedling growth of Cassia alata. The extracts showed a significant effect on the germination and growth. An increase in values for all parameters like germination percentage, days required for emergence of radicle and seedling growth was observed In case of rhizome extracts treatment. The germination patterns are not under rigid genetic control but represent an integration of genetic, enzymatic and environmental factors7. So this warrants further investigations.
