Nitric Oxide as a Major Risk Factor for Oxidative Stress in Coronary Artery Disease: A preliminary Investigation

摘要

The role of nitric oxide in vascular disease has been investigated over the past two decades and scientists have discovered that this molecule is involved in many cardiovascular diseases, including atherosclerosis and thickening of the endothelium. This investigation focused on the NO as a risk factor for narrowing the coronary arteries by the formation of plaques in the arterial wall. In this study, patient samples which were proven to be cases of cardiovascular disease were included. All age and sex matched normal controls were also included. Results revealed that the total plasma nitric oxide was increased in case of cardiovascular patients as compared to the normal healthy controls and it may be concluded that nitric oxide is an emerging marker for oxidative stress, which is a major coronary risk factor and the result is highly significant.
