Imagine the feeling if a massive ancient structure was discovered under Dalhousie Square, now BBD Bag, during excavation for the metro rail extension in the city. Recently I experienced a similar sensation when an Arts Centre with a 900-seat capacity auditorium was discovered a few weeks back under the Piazza Venezia, arguably the busiest roundabout in Rome, and one that I have crisscrossed innumerable times in order to board buses and taxis towards various destinations. Archaeologists believe that this structure, labelled Athenaeum, was built in 123 CE during the period of Emperor Hadrian as a school for the promotion of literary and scientific studies.
