Zeppelin Rammer

The Zeppelin Rammer was first proposed in November 1944 to combat the hordes of Allied bombers reigning supreme over Germany in the latter stages of World War Ⅱ.This little rocket powered aircraft was to be towed aloft by a mother plane, most likely a Messerschmitt Bf 109, and released on contact with the bomber fleets. It would ignite its rocket engine and make an attacking pass firing off its fourteen nose mounted 55mm unguided rockets before coming round again to make its ramming pass aiming for the bomber's tail or wings. To aid its survival it had armoured wings consisting of steel and metal tubing as reinforcement, supposedly allowing it to slice clean through the flying surfaces. After completing its task it would glide its way back to ground to be reused another day. Sixteen were initially ordered in early 1945 but destruction of the Zeppelin factory put paid to the project before any were completed.
