With hindsight perhaps simply combining the TFX and EF-111A kits would have been the way forward but given the way I work I would probably still have bought everything available. I am happy with the result - not a lot of them out there after all. The plane is very elegant, a fact remarked on by friends and family. In the 1/1 world the rest is history. The Navy got the plane it wanted, in the form of the Tomcat which Grumman was able to produce successfully, I think, largely because it was well along the learning curve with the F-111B, not least with the Phoenix fire-control system. The F-14 was of comparable size, though lighter and with developed engines.
