Satellites work in cyberspace

A recent article in a major U.S. daily newspaper boldly proclaimed that the current standard for Internet communication does not work well with satellites. The article maintained that the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP), the standard used to link computers on the Internet, is tripped up by the slight time delay inherent in satellite communications as signals travel to an orbiting satellite and back.
