Avariety of recording and replaying routines are being marketed by VDR manufac-turers, and the choice of VDR is now likely to be influ-enced by its usefulness as an operational management tool as it is by its emergency recording abilities. Some, for example, have opted for instant recording. On its VDRs, Consilium has developed what it believes is a simple method to help users "in a stressed or short-of-time situation," said its project and technical support manager Peter Larsson. Hitting a button on the remote alarm display prevents a pre-set portion of the memory, both before and after the incident, from being erased. This can be transferred later onto a DVD disc using the machine's built-in DVD disc drive, following prompts on the VDR's touch screen. This can be replayed on any PC that is equipped with Consilium VDR Player software.
