Decisions were made regarding LRIT (Long-Range Identification and Tracking) System at the 83rd session of IMO's Maritime Safety Committee (MSC), held in Copenhagen in October. Delegates approved a temporary International LRIT Data Exchange (IDE) for individual data centres. The interim IDE will be built, hosted and run by the US and will operate until the MSC finds a permanent base for the exchange in the next two years. The exchange will enable centres to communicate with one another, swap information and data and supply information to contracting governments and search and rescue services.
