Security could be a bigger threat to shipping than piracy, an industry executive has asserted. US Navy Rear Adm Lee Metcalf quoted Maersk SVP Stephen Carmel as warning that excessive security demands on the supply chain could be more of a threat than piracy or terrorism. The statement came during the USCG MDA Day symposium, where military, intelligence and industry leaders gathered to bring "innovation" to the Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) strategy.
