I arrived at the gate to A&P Falmouth Shiprepair at the UK's Falmouth Docks bright and early, having arranged to meet Richard Cooper of Lloyd's Register. He had agreed to let me shadow him to get a feel for what a class surveyor gets up to during a typical day's work.rnCooper was quick to point out that there's no such thing as a 'typical' day. With so many ships in dock for refit and repair, he told me that after our first appointment we would likely be heading off to meet 'whoever screams the loudest'. Throughout the day Cooper's work was continually interrupted, each ring of his mobile phone signalling yet another visit to pack in to an already hectic day.
