Two seamen had just finished work for the day and were exiting the cargo hold of their Australia-bound bulk-carrier when one of them heard an ominous thud. He turned to see his colleague sprawled across the carrier's tank top after losing his footing and falling almost 4m off the hold's forward ladder. Although the ship's crew were alerted and mounted an emergency response exercise, the seaman died from head injuries caused by the fall.The accident occurred on the Panama-flagged Oceanic Angel three degrees south of the Equator.
