In February, Intertanko asserted thatrncurrent SOLAS regulations for deployment and use of inert gas systems required amendment in respect of all new oil and chemical tankers. Its proposal is that inert gas installations should be required by SOLAS for use on board vessels - regardless of size or type - where the nature and properties of the cargo demand their use for the effective prevention of explosion and fire.
