An Indonesian crewman from a refugee boat that exploded off Australia's northern coast on 16 April appeared in Darwin Magistrates Court on 1 June to face charges of people smuggling. Five asylum seekers were killed, 44 others were injured and several Australian defence personnel hurt in the explosion, which is suspected to have been caused by sabotage.
