Despite modern safety devices, thernweather remains an ever life at sea, as the crew of one container ship discovered last year. A report by the UK's Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) into a fatality on board the UK-flagged Maersk Kithira was published in late April. In the South China Sea on 23 September 2008, chief engineer Graham Ross was killed and the vessel's chief officer seriously injured when they were struck by a huge wave on the ship's upper deck.
