Manila pushes for tighter security efforts

Security in the Philippines is to be enhanced to protect shipping, the environment and the public. Philippine National Police (PNP) chief director general Jesus Verzosa has also called for the country's Maritime Group to be reformed, arguing that weak security in provincial ports could be contributing to criminal activity such as the 4 April kidnapping of a Swiss-Filipino citizen in the southern port of Zamboanga.
