Kelvin Hughes has released add-on software for its MantaDigital radar range to improve the display of slow-moving and stationary targets.rnOriginally designed for detecting sea ice, Enhanced Target Detection (ETD) is aimed at improving radar images without interfering with normal radar appearance or operation. Small targets such as buoys can be detected and Kelvin Hughes believes the system will prove of particular use in "challenging weather" such as that typicallyrnseen in North Atlantic and Baltic waters. Using the software add-on, moving targets are displayed in a different colour, in order to create a better distinction between stationary and active targets. By combining ETD with the dual plan position indicator (PPI) mode, an operator can continue to use the radar normally while viewing the enhanced picture on the secondary PPI without cluttering the main display.
