Somali pirates continue to harassrnshipping, with one recent estimate putting their 2009 ransom earnings at approximately $100M. While global attention remains focused on motherships, skiffs and merchant vessels in the Gulf of Aden, less publicised onshore conflicts between the country's rival factions are sustaining the piracy problem.
