EU security training for Somalis

The EU will train Somali security forces as the latest step in the fight against piracy, it was revealed in January. About 2,000 Somalis will be trained by 100 EU trainers in Uganda for a period of one year.rnSpain will lead the project, which is aimed at "strengthening" Somalia's transitional government to create a more robust state, explained an EU spokesman. A stronger Somali state, he said, will "in the longer-term, have an effect on the piracy problem".
