Carbon offsets are becoming common as optional extras when booking air travel -just tick the box, and the kindly airline will plant a tree at just a small cost to yourself. Now, ship-delivery company International Maritime Services (IMS) is doing the same and offering a carbon offset option for all delivery voyages, through an alliance with Yacht Carbon Offset, a specialist in the field. Greenhouse gas emissions from fuel burned by participating vessels will be counterbalanced by equivalent emissions reductions from green energy projects. COO Brendan Cooley believes IMS to be the first ship delivery company to offer this service.
