New guards contract gets attention

Shipping industry body BIMCO told SAS its standard contract for armed ship guards is quickly gaining acceptance. Deputy secretary general Seiren Larsen said: "We have had a number of approaches from firms wanting to see a copy of the contract, and I believe it has already been used." BIMCO's Guardcon, which is intended to standardise rules on maritime security guards, was unveiled on 28 March. "During the many years that I have worked with BIMCO, it's a long time since I've seen such an interest for a document like this one," Larsen told SAS.
