The loss of Costa Concordia is likely to spur an inquiry into lifeboat drills and systems to account for passengers and crew, after it was reported that passengers had not undergone lifeboat drills before the accident.SOLAS Chapter 3 requires passengers to be familiarised with the ship's safety installations and practice musters. If passengers are scheduled to be on board for more than 24 hours, musters must take place within 24 hours of embarkation. SOLAS also requires that whenever new passengers embark they are given a safety briefing immediately before or after sailing.
