Seven missing in South China Sea sinking

Seven crew members were missing presumed drowned when their South Korean general cargo ship sank in the South China Sea in November. The 27,000dwt Bright Ruby went down in rough seas nearly 350nm south of Hong Kong, CNN reported. Six South Koreans and eight Burmese crew members were rescued by nearby ships, however. Hong Kong's Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre was alerted and sent two helicopters and at least seven ships to the area to search for the three missing Koreans and four Burmese, while China also sent two warships to assist. Fixed-wing aircraft from the Hong Kong-based Government Flying Service made several sorties over the area to search for the missing seafarers, but to no avail, China Daily reported.
