Iran's navy has reportedly foiled a pirate attack on an Iranian LPG carrier. Its deputy operations chief, Admiral Siavash Jareh, told Iranian broadcaster Press TV that eight pirate vessels attacked Bootanon on 20 October at the mouth of the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait. Navy forces skirmished with the pirates for several hours before they were driven off, according to Middle Eastern news agency TREND. The admiral said Bootanon was not damaged and continued on its route under naval fleet escort, which included the destroyer Sabalan and the helicopter carrier Lark.
