The Kenya Maritime Authority (KMA) has launched its curriculum for training seafarers in a bid to raise the country's maritime standards. Nancy Karigithu CEO of the KMA told SAS in October: "It is something that we have been deliberating for a long time." The new curriculum, which is in line with the IMO, aims to help Kenyan seafarers reach international standards. Karigithu, who was one of the key drivers behind the establishment of the KMA, added: "The government established a task force to review the sector because from a maritime perspective we had fallen behind as a country."
