Lifeboats need SOLAS update, say experts

Maritime safety experts are urging the IMO to introduce changes to SOLAS Chapter III designed to make lifeboat safety equipment more relevant and effective to modern survival situations. Part C, section IV of the regulation outlines the vital survival gear required on board all lifeboats and liferafts, but some of the listed kit is no longer useful to today's seafarer, according to Michael Lloyd, a former ship master and marine adviser at Mines Rescue Marine.
