Asian piracy falls in first half of 2013

Cases of piracy and armed robbery have dropped during the first half of this year compared with the same period in 2012, according to the ReCAAP Information Sharing Centre. Fifty-seven incidents, comprised of 54 actual and three attempted incidents were reported in the first half this year, against 64 incidents reported in the same period of 2012. The overall severity of the incidents reported in the period has also decreased, noted ReCAAP. Of the 54 actual incidents, 13 were Category 2 or 'moderately significant', 20 were Category 3 or 'less significant', and 21 were petty thefts.
