The alarming number of attacks on ships using Indonesia's ports shows no sign of abating. From January 2012 until June, 24 attacks were reported. In the second six months of the year this increased to 44, according to statistics from the International Maritime Bureau's (IMB's) piracy reporting centre. "In the vast majority of cases across all of these sites the pirates have boarded the ship with the single intent of stealing from the vessel and the crew," maritime security analyst Dave Sloggett told SAS.
