South Korea's e-navigation story

South Korea wants to take the lead in developing a next-generation e-navigation system to enhance safety and security in commercial shipping. The country's Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries' maritime industry and technology division told IHS Maritime: "As [South] Korea boasts its strengths in ICT (Information and Communication Technology) and shipbuilding sectors, we have the best condition to develop e-navigation. As three sides of the country are surrounded by the ocean, securing effectiveness of ocean transport and port management connects to increasing the national competitiveness." This was evident from the many speeches and presentations given at the recent Digital Ship Korea event in Busan.
