UT99 AG, a pioneering German engineering company, recently announced that it had secured class approval from Germanischer Lloyd (GL) for its latest portfolio of oil mist separators. With an established history of developing and providing this type of equipment for shore-based high-power applications in power generation, UT99 began to attract inquiries from the marine sector. Lukas Riedo, managing director, explained to IHS Maritime: "The inquiries for marine applications became more and more and we were faced with a lot of questions regarding safety and reliability of function... That was the reason for starting the discussion with Germanischer Lloyd [GL] and development for a GL-approved oil mist separator." These discussions, alongside the development of a separator engineered for marine and offshore use, took two years and resulted in the class-approved product UT99 has now brought to the market.
