Three passengers were hurt when the ferry they were travelling in hit a pier in Macau as it was berthing on 13 March. The Turbo JET ferry, Universal MK 2006, operated by Shun Tak's Hong Kong-Macau service, was carrying 291 passengers and 10 staff when its bow struck the wall of the outer ferry terminal in Macau at 15.00 local time. Three people - Australian, Chinese and Hong Kong nationals - were injured. The ferry was travelling from Hong Kong to Macau, a special administrative region in China which has become a gambling haven for Chinese and Hong Kong nationals. Initial investigations showed that mechanical failure in the ferry's left engine led to loss of manoeuvrability.
