No safety lapses found after Thai ferry fire

Investigators are probing a ferry blaze as Thailand tightens its ship safety rules. The Ao Nang Princess 5 ferry caught fire on 8 April en route from Krabi to Phuket. All of the 116 passengers on board were rescued except for a 12-year-old Israeli girl. Preliminary investigations found that the fire broke out in the engine room at the boat's stern. The number of passengers was within the vessel's limits and the ship was carrying enough rescue appliances, including lifejackets and extinguishers, in a ready-to-use condition, Voradej Harnprasert, a deputy permanent secretary for transport, told reporters.
