Princess of the Stars operator loses passenger licence

Philippine Span Asia Carrier, formerly known as Sulpicio Lines, has lost its passenger-carrying licence. The Phillipines Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) cancellation of Span Asia's certificate of public convenience on 16 February comes seven years after the ship operator's flagship, Princess oj the Stars, capsized in a storm, with more than 800 casualties. The licence cancellation means the operator's 11 cargo and two passenger ships are restricted to cargo operations.
