Cyber attacks in the maritime sector are rarely reported to insurers and even fewer losses are covered, according to an IHS survey conducted with BIMCO. Only 11.7% of cyber attacks across the sector were reported to insurers and just 3.3% of respondents said their losses were covered. No claims were paid though hull and machinery policies, while less than 1% of respondents were paid via P&I coverage and 1.9% through a specific cyber insurance policy. "The cyber response is a mess at present," a Lloyd's underwriter told IHS SAS's sister publication IHS Fairplay.
