Research suggests methane leaks during liquefied natural gas bunkering operations are eroding the benefits of cleaner-burning LNG and could increase fuel costs for shipowners. A study by the US Maritime Administration (MarAd) in February, said about 1% of methane during bunkering, for example, led to an approximate 10% increase in net greenhouse gas emissions.
