An eight-year restriction on vessels that have recently called at Cuba from entering US ports has been lifted by the US Coast Guard (USCG). The 2002 Maritime Transportation Security Act (MTSA) allows the USCG to place conditions on US-destined vessels whose last five calls include ports claimed to have inadequate anti-terrorism measures. Cuba was added to the list in 2008. An advisory on 17 March from the agency's International Port Security Program, however, states that the USCG has determined that Cuba "is now maintaining effective anti-terrorism measures in [its] ports".
