US lists top detention issues

Deficient maintenance of ships and equipment has been the number-one reason for detaining foreign vessels in the United States in 2015, maritime regulators have revealed. The US Coast Guard (USCG), which is responsible for conducting port state control (PSC) examinations on ships calling at American ports, listed improper operation of oily water separating equipment as the second-highest reason for detainments, according to a bulletin released by the agency on 17 December.
