◁Anyone involved with maritime accidents knows that it usually takes months or years (if ever) to figure out exactly what caused an accident, but public opinion won't wait that long. Chatting in the mess or out with friends, everyone seems to "know" what's happened within hours of an incident. Of course, they don't "know" - no one knows at that stage - but they think they do.
