Start-up businesses, which are companies in the early stages of development and funding, are gaining traction and promise to improve the safety solutions on offer to shipping companies with the latest advances in technology. "Autonomous doesn't mean unmanned" is the motto for marine technology start-up Shone. The aim of Shone is to retrofit manned ships with autonomous technologies to improve safety, security, and quality of life for crew members on board vessels.
