BUILDING on a sure foundation

Aconsultant for a well-known health and safety company visited one of our construction sites recently to carry out an inspection on behalf of a client. After the inspection he reported a few minor problems to our site manager, mainly relating to scaffolding issues. He also quizzed the site manager for details of his safety manager and where he was based. A few days later the consultant phoned, and said that during his visit he had found 'numerous' problems and suggested to me that this particular site manager needed training. Unsurprisingly, he volunteered the services of his own company to undertake this. Once I had calmed down, I thanked him politely and said I would consider the offer. This made me question the success of our training system. However, the site manager's training records showed he had attended all our health and safety training modules (see ST-CRED's box).
