Delivering good health at work should be a core activity for all organisations, and compliance with health and safety and employment laws should be a board-level performance issue. Good health at work is, of course, not only marked by lower levels of accidents and ill health but also reduced lost time caused by ill health and injury. Importantly, better organisational performance is realised through individuals having increased energy and dynamism. A survey of organisations by Business in the Community has reported that chief executives and finance directors believe that to improve productivity it is more important to improve employees' energy and alertness than to offer more performance pay.
