The new Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005 come into force this month, bringing with them 5dB reductions in allowable levels, more levels to monitor, limit values, compulsory health surveillance, weekly averaging and tighter hearing protection controls. Simon Bull looks at the main changes from the original 1989 Regulations and at some of the issues employers will need to address as a result.
