摘要

Manufacturers' group the EEF has branded the Artificial Optical Radiation Directive "a very bad directive" that gives "health and safety legislation a bad name". The group's concerns have led it to lobby Work and Pensions Secretary, Yvette Cooper, calling for a full review in a last-ditch attempt to block the EU Directive, which is due to be implemented in the UK by April next year.rnThe Directive requires employers to assess the risks of exposure to optical radiation, ensure exposure does not surpass specified Exposure Limit Values (ELVs), and provide appropriate information, training and health surveillance.rnThe EEF believes its implementation through new regulations will increase bureaucracy for businesses that carry out welding operations and use lasers, and increase misunderstanding
